I have three children. The two oldest are boys. They have recently been watching Classic Disney movies that we have on DVD. They try to fly like Peter Pan. They want to find Ms Jumbo. When I mention these movies, most of you will be reminiscing about a happy time when you were younger watching these movies. Now you may be asking well what does this have to do with my small business or with social media marketing. It has a lot to do with social media marketing and marketing in general. Let’s look at the following advertisement that I found on YouTube of a Disney World commercial.
What does this commercial make you feel? Does it make you feel Love? Are you now going to go buy Cinderella or maybe even plan a trip to Disney World? They have connected with you on an emotional level. You want to do this with your Social Media Marketing, because Social Media Marketing is about engagement. Connecting with your customer’s emotions is an excellent way to engage with them. Here are three steps to take to plan for reaching customers on an emotional level.
- Determine what kind of emotion you want your customer’s or clients to feel after visiting your business or experiencing your service. Here is an example to help you understand. You own a coffee shop. You might want them to feel like they have experienced a European vacation.
- Create a tag line that expresses this emotion. An example might be Wilkes Coffee Shop a Little European Vacation close to home.
- Create social media campaigns that incorporates your tag line and emotion. You might make a wall post such as the following: You don’t have to cross the Atlantic to get to Ireland to experience a Irish vacation when you experience today’s special our Irish Cream Coffee.
What emotion do you want your customers to feel when they think about your brand? Let me know in the comments.
